The ongoing conflicts in Ukraine, the Middle East, and the Indo-Pacific have intensified the shift toward hybrid warfare, with cyberspace emerging as a central battleground. In 2024 alone, Ukraine reported over 4,300 cyber incidents targeting critical infrastructure, while Taiwan faced an average of 2.4 million cyberattacks per day — double the rate of the previous year. Iran-linked groups launched waves of DDoS attacks and disinformation campaigns following escalations with Israel.

The Office of the Commissioner of Communications – Digital Security Authority (DSA), in collaboration with the European Security and Defence College (ESDC), successfully organized the specialized training course “Cyber Incident Responder”, held at the ICT Academy – Office of the Commissioner of Communications, from June 17 to 20, 2025.

The aviation industry took a major step forward in strengthening its defences against cyber threats with the successful completion of Cyber Skies 2025, an international cybersecurity exercise designed to enhance resilience in the sector. Organized by EUROCONTROL, the Digital Security Authority of Cyprus (DSA), the Israel National Cyber Directorate (INCD), and the Department of Civil Aviation of Cyprus (DCA). The two-day tabletop exercise in Nicosia brought together a diverse group of aviation professionals, cybersecurity experts, and regulatory authorities from Cyprus, Israel, Malta, Greece, Italy, Croatia, Bulgaria and Belgium.

As part of its strategic goal to enhance maritime cybersecurity, the Digital Security Authority, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Shipping Deputy Ministry, the U.S. Embassy, Sandia National Laboratories from the U.S. and the Open University of Cyprus, organized the second cybersecurity workshop “Preventing Cyber Aggression in the Maritime Domain”.
