The Digital Security Authority has taken on the role of the National Cybersecurity Coordination Centre for the Republic of Cyprus (NCCC-CY), where it will contribute to the achievement of the objectives of Regulation (EU) 2021/887, and will take the necessary steps to promote them in the Cybersecurity Community. It is poised to make a significant contribution to the development of cybersecurity capacity and to the development of the necessary know-how and expertise in the Community. The National Cybersecurity Coordination Centre of Cyprus will support the development of cybersecurity capabilities at the national, regional and local levels.

One of the most important responsibilities of the Centre (in collaboration with the Research and Innovation Foundation - RIF) is the management and distribution of European co-funding to stakeholders within Cyprus. In order for the DSA to operate effectively in this direction, it had to be assessed in depth by the European Commission in terms of its ability to manage such funds. The evaluation process involved preparing and submitting a proposal which answered a number of questions and included a series of supporting documents that had to be prepared. Specific evidence regarding the capabilities of the Centre also had to be provided. The European Commission carried out the evaluation after the submission of the proposal by the DSA on 17 February 2022.

The proposal was formally approved by the European Commission on 4 May, which is a significant achievement for the nascent National Cybersecurity Coordination Centre of Cyprus, as the DSA (together with RIF) will now be able to compete for and channel available European funds to interested stakeholders in Cyprus. For example, stakeholders will be able to apply for co-funding for the procurement of tools, specialized solutions and cybersecurity equipment, so that they can strengthen their infrastructure and services. In addition, this is a big step forward for Cyprus as a whole to strengthen and develop the country's cybersecurity ecosystem.
